How to search the database
Use keywords to search in the proverbs and quotes database. When searching with just one word (or part of a word) the script will show all records that contain an exact match of that word. Searching with ‘man’ will find proverbs that contain the word ‘man’, but also ‘mango’ or ‘mankind’.
When searching with two or more keywords, you can select how to use these words in the search. The three options are: ‘AND’, ‘OR’ and ‘AS A PHRASE’
The ‘AND’ option finds proverbs and quotes that contain all the words of your search. Searching with ‘cat’ AND ‘dog’ will find proverbs and quotes that contain both words (e.g. “It’s not the fleas of the dog that make the cat meow.”)
With the ‘OR’ option, the script finds records that contain at least one of the words of your search. Searching for ‘cat’ OR ‘dog’ will find all proverbs that contain ‘cat’ plus all proverbs that contain ‘dog’ (and in addition, proverbs with words like ‘eduCATion’. The ‘OR’ option is mainly useful for searches such as ‘butterfly’ OR ‘butterflies’.
With the ‘AS A PHRASE’ option the script keeps your search words together. Searching for ‘in the house’ AS A PHRASE will find proverbs such as “Two scorpions in a small cave are better than two sisters in the house.”
